We have explored less than 5 percent of the world’s oceans.
With so much of the planet dedicated to water, one might assume that oceans would be the first to be explored. It turns out that’s not the case. What can we learn? Why should we care? NOAA is the only federal organization solely dedicated to ocean exploration, although, of course, there are independent ventures like National Geographic working in oceanography as well.
